Phase 1
🖊️ Digital Drawing Fundamentals
Children move from paper to screen — learning how digital drawing tools differ from traditional ones and how to use them with confidence and control. They practise proportion and basic shapes, learn how to use layers (the foundation of all digital art), and discover how to translate what their eye sees into what their hand draws digitally. By the end of Phase 1, every child has drawn several complete digital illustrations using correct proportion and line control.
Phase 2
🎨 Colour, Layers & Composition
Children learn how digital art layers work — the tool that separates digital art from paper drawing and allows unlimited creative freedom. They build colour palettes inspired by Nigerian environments, textiles, and landscapes. They learn composition principles — how to arrange elements within a frame to create visual balance, tension, and interest. Every artwork produced in this phase has a deliberate, intentional colour story behind it.
Phase 3

Week 1–2
Digital Drawing Fundamentals & Tool Mastery
Children are introduced to their digital drawing tools — Ibis Paint X (free, works on phones and tablets) or Procreate (iPad). They learn the interface, brush settings, canvas setup, and the crucial difference between drawing on a screen and drawing on paper. Exercises focus on line control, basic shapes, and proportion — the same principles that underpin all great illustration. By week 2, every child has completed three guided digital drawings and understands how layers work.
Week 3–4
Colour Theory, Composition & Nigerian Palettes
Children study how colours interact — complementary colours, analogous palettes, warm and cool tones — and learn to build deliberate colour palettes for their artworks. Nigerian cultural colour inspirations are used throughout: the rich earth tones of Abuja architecture, the bright fabrics of Nigerian markets, the deep blues of Port Harcourt evenings. By week 4, children are producing coloured digital illustrations with intentional, harmonious palettes rather than random colour choices.
Week 5–6
Character Design — Nigerian Faces, Nigerian Stories
The most energetic and creative phase of the course. Children design original Nigerian characters from concept through to finished illustration. They explore facial proportions for different ages and expressions, practise drawing a range of Nigerian hairstyles and traditional clothing, and develop a character concept with a name, backstory, and visual personality. By week 6, every child has designed at least two fully realised original characters — often including a self-portrait in their own artistic style.
Week 7–8
Portfolio Project & Art Showcase
Children select their strongest works from weeks 1–6 and create 2–3 polished, final illustrations specifically for their portfolio. They receive detailed instructor feedback on each piece, make professional refinements, and prepare their digital portfolio for sharing. The course ends with a virtual art showcase — every child presents their portfolio to the class, instructors, and parents, discusses the creative choices behind each piece, and receives appreciative feedback from the whole community.

No. Many students start using Ibis Paint X on a smartphone with their finger — and produce remarkable work. A tablet improves the experience and a stylus improves it further, but neither is required to begin the course. We recommend a budget stylus (available for under ₦3,000 in Nigerian markets) as a starting tool. We advise on the best affordable setup for each family during onboarding.
Yes. We start with the most foundational skills — how to hold a stylus, how to draw a confident line, how to construct basic shapes — and build from there. No prior drawing experience is needed. Some of our most creative digital artists started this course having never drawn anything beyond stick figures. Digital tools are in many ways more forgiving than paper — undo exists, layers allow experimentation, and mistakes are always fixable.
Yes — with increasing opportunities as the Nigerian creative economy grows. Book cover design, children's illustration, brand mascot design, game character art, educational materials, social media graphics, and fashion illustration are all paid categories that Nigerian digital artists actively work in. Many do so remotely for international clients, earning in dollars, with no geographic limitation from Nigeria.
Graphic Design focuses on layout, typography, brand design, and commercial visual communication — typically using Canva or Adobe tools. Digital Art focuses on illustration, character design, and freehand drawing using drawing-specific tools like Ibis Paint and Procreate. The courses complement each other strongly — many students take both, applying their illustration skills from Digital Art directly to graphic design projects, and vice versa.
We teach digital art from age 7. For ages 7–9 (Starters), sessions are shorter and more play-based — focused on exploration and fun with colour and drawing. For ages 10–17 (Explorers and Builders), the full curriculum applies with age-appropriate project complexity. There is no "too old" — we regularly enrol secondary school students who have never had structured art education and watch them produce exceptional work within weeks.
